Boise National Forest Conditions Assessment
Working through the HistoriCorps Architectural History Program, EAM Preservation conducted comprehensive conditions assessments of nine historic U.S. Forest Service administrative sites within Idaho’s Boise National Forest, encompassing 40 buildings and structures. The sites include six guard stations and three fire lookouts, many dating to the early twentieth century and the Civilian Conservation Corps era. Fieldwork involved architectural documentation, photographic surveys, evaluations of building materials and structural conditions, and identification of character-defining features. Each report incorporates historical context, architectural significance, construction chronology, and prioritized treatment recommendations consistent with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Preservation. Together, these assessments provide the U.S. Forest Service with a practical framework for addressing deferred maintenance, planning phased repairs, and preserving historically significant resources while supporting their continued use and public accessibility.
