EAM PRESERVATION

Garnet Ghost Town
Garnet, Montana
Working through HistoriCorps’ Architectural History Program, EAM Preservation conducted a comprehensive conditions assessment of 30 historic buildings at Garnet Ghost Town, Montana, for the Bureau of Land Management and Garnet Preservation Association. Over three weeks of fieldwork, the team documented structures dating from the 1890s through the mid-twentieth century using architectural measurements, digital photography, photogrammetry, and 3D modeling. The resulting 165-page report combines measured drawings, illustrated building evaluations, condition ratings, and prioritized treatment recommendations. Guided by Garnet’s preservation strategy of arrested decay, the project establishes a detailed record of existing conditions and a practical framework for stabilizing the buildings, protecting historic materials, and monitoring deterioration while retaining the weathered character of this former mining town.
